Mercy Health School Outreach Clinic recognised with Catholic Health Australia Award

The work of Mercy Health is deeply rooted in the mission of its founder, Catherine McAuley, who dedicated her life to caring for poor women and children, by offering education, shelter, and healthcare.

This commitment to compassion continues today through Mercy Health’s Paediatric School Outreach Clinic (Working Together for Children), a program that has recently been honoured with the 2024 Catholic Health Australia Award for Outreach Health.

This prestigious award recognises the outstanding work of the Working Together for Children program in providing specialist paediatric care to vulnerable children in the Wyndham community.

Made possible by generous philanthropic support from the Barr Family Foundation and the Ampol Foundation, the program integrates the expertise of Werribee Mercy Hospital’s Paediatrics team with the resources of Community Hubs Australia, The Smith Family, North West Primary Health Care, and Anglicare. Together, these partners deliver triaged and culturally safe paediatric services to children aged between five and 12.

Reflecting on the award’s significance, Mercy Health Group Chief Executive Officer, Angela Nolan, said the Working Together for Children program has enabled Mercy Health to expand the care available to the Wyndham community by removing barriers to healthcare for children and their parents in the region and ultimately enhancing the care available to the diverse community.

“Mercy Health has a long and proud history of delivering high-quality healthcare in Melbourne’s west. By collaborating with local health services and schools we are working to deliver accessible, culturally safe care to those who need it most,” said Ms Nolan.

“I am incredibly proud that this innovative program has been recognised by Catholic Health Australia for its work supporting the most marginalised in the Wyndham community.”

“I want to pay special thanks to our dedicated team of practitioners who work together to improve the physical and mental health of children experiencing social, economic or health disadvantage.”
